Rotary Encoder Interface to Counter

optical rotary encoders have two photodetectors next to each other to detect the direction of the encoder wheel as well as the pulse count. one detector will sink current slightly before the other, depending on direction. an rs flip flop gets signals from both detectors. the and gate provides the clock. the two nand gates then direct the clock to either up or down inputs on the counter depending on which detector was first.

Good example. I think there is something glitching in EC with the pulse delay, I see it in my boost and buck examples also. For this circuit if I set the top pulse near 34.6% delay then start the sim it counts for a while then stops, on my converter simulations I can actually see the ramps change shape (they are offset with a pulse delay also).

yeah it's the limitations of calculation

Nice example. Bookmarked.
