SCR is a power Electronic switch which requires no constant gate current. You give the supply once and turn it off, the switch remains conducting or latched.
The realization has been done using a NPN and PNP type Transistor which can be gated through the push button and still it remains conducting even if there is no Gate supply i.e, even if you release the button. This is how an SCR works.
