Your circuit works but the LEDs need a current limiting resistor to protect them. LEDs in this app are set at 2v and 20ma. 4.21v-2v=2.21÷20ma=110ohms would be resistor value. This circuit shows more configurations of the 555 in Astable mode _ http://everycircuit.com/circuit/5997908791656448
