Roops, I noticed, you have an extremly/awesome good sense for design/art and also for electronic! 😘

Is this your inspiration and own idea? Or did you just made some copie from internet? I love that so much, to think about to do something real out of it. Even I have to stop 200 projects ongoing..

This is pretty nice. It would be awesome implemented on a propeller clock

I think about a static implementation with LED strings about 70V each.

Nah too big. I'd like something on my desk

Yup this my creation 😎i squeezed in another bulb on a previous display I posted . But can't be certain if this has been done anywhere on the internet before

Guys thanks. Do with it what you want , I ain't claiming copyright over it :P

Nice words hurz. We never sure where inspiration takes us

Roops, are you willing to make your idea somehow realy conmigo?
roops1967

I had to google 'conmigo' lol , it says it means 'with me' in Spanish. Yeah sure if you say we should build this for real. What are you thinking, clock digits ?

At the end as clock, or temperatur display, or "you have X mails", or your bank account, or ...
roops1967

Sound good. Let's do it. Shall we attempt the external display that shows 'you have X mails' etc

Just posted an alphabet display to see if they are legible, check it out see what you think?

Nikki's idea could work too. Will need only 2 leds on a spinning fan blade to display this font... think about it

Hurz either you'r too busy with existing projects or enthusiasm has fizzled? I'm here if you change your mind :)

Right, to many projects, anyway im willing to spend some time for this idea, sorry only a little. I was thinking about the filamente led and long time ago I disassembled one of them. And right after my offer to do something here I went to search them and test them again. Cuz im old and do not remember its exact corner data. What I found is, 4 filaments each need 71V and starts to glow bright at already 120uA. However, going into ARTs and DESIGN I have no idea how these little strips would look like? Probably ugly.... im looking for an cool alternative which must be somehow currious. I wont do it with boring LEDs. Any idea what is round and needs some know how to light up?

I kinda get your drift. I prefer the feel of the warm valve glow opposed to the cold and clinical LEDs in comparison. Was thinking this could look good in a Nixie tube. But yeah these filament leds do look they give that nice glow and should look good 😊 I'll attempt to set something up on my side too, if it looks good will send you pics/video

Would be sooo cool if could make this display within the bulb using the filament LEDs, that would be a job!

What about spark gaps for each segment?

Haven't started on it yet, will have something in another week. I'm lazy that way :P Have you attempted it yet?

I experiment with smart LEDs, APA102 at arduino NANO, thats probably the most flexible way to arange LED pixels in any form color and brightness. But is it still the original idea?

Hey hurz long time. The is my original design I haven't copied it, is this what you are asking in you question? So you have been playing with dotstar (apa102) , yeah will be great for persistence of vision spinning stuff like this. I haven't used them yet, I been playing with cheaper neopixels (ws2812) which are too slow for POV. I haven't tried building this yet in any format, but yes I think it's about time we do something with this ;)

Can do the spinning pov using only 2 of your apa102's, one for the outer circumference segments and one offcentre so that to get middle 2 segments. Coding it will need a little thought but should be easy driving it with arduino. Your thoughts?

Check this guy's clock out https://spritesmods.com/?art=ledfanclock. This is a smart use of just one multicolour led as strobe, clever! But room needs to be dark to see the hands. I thought could use the same method for this, but will have problem with middle, unless I do different colour for middle and out, or can mask around the middle segment that doesn't spin with the fan, either way it's messy. Anyway this guy thinks outside the box and likes minimalist approach, i like how he did this https://spritesmods.com/?art=minimalism

i also played with ws2812 and sure both are to slow for a propeller clock or display.

i was thinking about not rotating segments. You are so keen to let it propell?
roops1967

Whatever is visually aesthetic :) , rotating was just an idea that looked like a good fit, it's not a must. I am interested in what you got in mind

i dont know what it was 2 years agi, but it was sonething with spark gaps or glowing wires as segments. Konstantan/Kanthal as wires and with some ampere let them glow any form of filament. Spark gaps are not that formable, its to long time ago. 😉
