Volume Control Circuit with Loudness Compensation This analog audio circuit features a 50 kΩ linear potentiometer used for volume control, enhanced by a parallel 18 kΩ resistor to simulate a logarithmic response. This modification improves the perceptual smoothness of volume changes, aligning better with the human ear’s logarithmic sensitivity. A Loudness switch activates a passive RC network that boosts low and high frequencies, compensating for the ear’s reduced sensitivity to bass and treble at low listening levels. The network includes capacitors and resistors tuned to emphasize frequencies around 100 Hz and above 10 kHz, depending on component values. Linear potentiometer + 18 kΩ resistor → Simulates logarithmic taper for natural volume control. Loudness switch → Engages frequency compensation for enhanced tonal balance at low volumes. The circuit perform effectively. The resistor successfully emulates a logarithmic curve, and the Loudness feature adds valuable tonal compensation. It’s a clever solution when logarithmic potentiometers aren’t available, delivering a smooth and expressive listening experience.
