Vertical line on left is liquid overflow line for water, oil, ect. which flows into bucket with a bail ( not shown) attached to end of knife switch mounted upside down. Empty can supported by closed knife switch until weight of overflow liquid pulls knife switch open. If in series with pump power it cuts off pump. It could also sound alarm of overflow, or do both.
