The diodes are a good thing to protect the opamp. Anyway, I would call this circuit a polarity indicator. The information of crossing zero volt is hidden in the output changing edge. Zero volt is a point in time and impossible to indicate exactly the moment of crossing. Points do not have a dimension ... you can put a monoflop to extent this touch of a point, but you will loos probably the imidiate return crossing. Math is not easy.
