Voltage Limiter High Impedance

This example shows using a resistor and 2 series diodes to limit the voltage driving a high-impedance pin, in this case, a MOSFET. Many transistors are very sensitive to noise like inductive spikes or switching spikes, and this circuit limits both voltage and current to the FET. In the real world, a BAV99 is what I use often on my boards.

Over- and under- Voltage protection can work like this, but adds some more gate capacitance to switch slow 100kOhm × INcapacitance = Tau Integrated circuits do ESD protection this way mostly for digital inputs.
