A photoresistor is going to be used instead of the potentiometer.Note that the base resistor can be replaced with a potentiometer,that can be used to adjust the sensor's sensitivity.Feel free to ask any questions or recommend any improvements :-) .

This is a cool circuit- not too complicated. I used it for a Led strip I fabricated for my bedroom window. There's a bit more that has to be done to get it to operate correctly in a real life situation, but I did build a simulation with this program to play with the numbers before I put it together irl. I can post that circuit if you'd like to check it out..
