Linear mode power supply

This circuit describes how to convert from an AC source to a regulated DC output, the drawbacks of this circuit is that it is much less efficient than a switch mode power supply, because there is an uninterrupted current which is being always delivered to the load, and the power supply itself takes alot of physical space "transformer" instead of being a small one, and that it only works when the input voltage is higher than the output voltage

Why did you add resistor at the primary of the power supply...??? What for??

Because in the real application of the device, without the resistor you would have shorted the input terminals together
