EC Android App Board Size Bug Question

Edit 3-26-23: With the rollout of EveryCircuit 2.8, this is no longer an issue. Thanks, @Igor, and the whole development team! @igor and the rest of the development team: I have noticed issues when trying to open certain circuits posted on the community. I am using an android phone. No errors are thrown, and the app doesn't crash; the circuit just doesn't load. Here are a few example problem circuits. https://everycircuit.com/circuit/6726132900298752 https://everycircuit.com/circuit/5427772071346176 https://everycircuit.com/circuit/6494036759937024 https://everycircuit.com/circuit/6187920012345344 When I opened these in a browser running EC, then there were no problems. I counted the grid lines and discovered that there is twice as much space in the browser version than in the android app! The android app fails to open these circuits because there isn't enough room (I think). Is this a legitimate bug/problem? Is anyone else experiencing this issue? I don't know if this is the way to report a bug. @igor, if you can, please take a look into this and let me know if enlarging the workspace in the android app will work. Not being a developer, I don't know how hard this would be to fix. But any effort to resolve this will be greatly appreciated by myself and the EC community.

You are not the only one experiencing this. I've sent an email to their support team detailing what you've found with a link to this circuit. If you wish to do the same, the email is info@everycircuit.com

Wow, thanks for sending an email to the support team about this issue! Since you linked to this circuit in your email, I won't remove it. I guess there's nothing left to do except wait...

It's a nice app, but with little maintenance and very distant releases in time. If in the "what's new" section there were the date of each release (and in fact they are ashamed to put it) it would be clear what I'm saying

Yeah, I get what you're saying. I didn't even know if the app was being maintained at all. That's why I was so glad when the RGB LED update came out. I'm not a programmer, but I do know that it can take a lot of effort to fix even simple looking bugs. I just hope the fix for the board size problem is sooner rather than later!

I believe I’ve seen Igor respond to this exact request at least once before, and if I recall correctly, he basically said it was not capable of being expanded any farther, I don’t know why though. You can probably find history of it if you look at his posts for the comments / suggestions for new components that he made

It is pretty sad that it’s not maintained as well as it could be, for such a nice pocket simulator and community! I’ve tried contacting over email a few times about an issue with even just me being able to load stuff in the app or the app period at some times, It’s so jumbled up for me that even the “example circuits” tab has several of my really old personal circuits at the top of it, a very strange issue, likely to have something to do with how it handles the storage of all that data. Weird for sure. If I could I would consider deleting my account and starting fresh just to make it run when it seems like it’s broken beyond repair at times, but I’d be too afraid of having to re-pay for the premium again and loosing everything of course

Good to hear from you, @Issac. Yeah, that's some funny stuff happening in your account there. I don't know what else you could try that you haven't already. Anyhow, I ran a cursory glance through @Igor's circuits for board size comments but didn't find what you're referring to. I'll look more thoroughly later. It seems to me that expanding the workspace should be feasible because it was expanded in the browser version, and other simulators like Proto have larger workspaces. Again, I'm no programmer, but still, I have to wonder...

An interesting development is that (apparently) the board size has been reduced in the browser version! As of this moment, it is back to the same size it was before. Here's a link to the relevant post: https://everycircuit.com/circuit/5717177151520768

Hey good to hear from you too! I’ll have to do a little more looking around too to see if I can find that sim size discussion. Also, I don’t use the desktop version very often, had no idea they would care to change the size of it.

Hello everyone! We are rolling out a 4x larger schematic area. Right now it is only available in the Web app. Android and iOS apps with larger area are in review by Google and Apple and should be published in a couple of days. Meanwhile, mobile apps will not be capable of opening large circuits. We should have timed the releases better to avoid this issue. Thank you for being patient!

I remember that community discussion about making the schematic area larger. That was in 2015 or so. At that time I had two concerns. First, low-end devices would struggle simulating large circuits without lag. Second, our automatic wire routing algorithm did not scale well with schematic size and would be just too slow. Recently the routing algorithm was completely rewritten and now it is much-much faster. Simulation of large circuits is also less of an issue in 2023 as mobile devices got more capable. So we thought it was the right time to expand schematic area. I am really excited to see the circuits the Community will build with this!

@Igor, this is absolutely terrific news! Thank you for responding to this post on the workspace size issue; it was getting kinda confusing. I know you get peppered with a lot of requests for upgrades, so I really appreciate you expanding the workspace, as that is something I (and many others) wanted for a long time. I do hope you get the green light on the mobile app update soon! Thanks again and best regards.

Awesome to hear @Igor ! There are certainly many of us who appreciate how far you’ve come along with the app, and can’t wait to see it prosper even further! As for mobile apps not being capable of opening large circuits, I wonder if there would be a way to break the circuit into smaller more manageable pieces for mobile to open and then re-piece it together afterwards, or something similar

I am happy to let you know that the new version 2.28 was just released and it has a 4x larger schematic area. Now it is available on all platforms, including Android and iOS.
