Charge Capacitor and light LED. Open gate to discharge Super Cap. Stays lit and slowly fades out.  Nice little circuit.

50F capacitors are a way to expensive. There are cheaper possibilities with much smaller capacitor, resistor and transistor.

True but more reliable,less components and portable power source. Recharge hundreds of thousands of times unlike rechargeable batteries. Also takes way less time to charge and discharge. Love this idea with a joulethief. Have one I made with a 350F Super Cap Flashlight with Usb for charging. Just a few mins of charge last for hours. It's 2 years old and works like I make it yesterday plus no changing bulbs. LEDs are the way to go. Super Caps will eventually be smaller and cheaper and I believe will one day replace batteries.
