This is the first EC circuit I have seen that would work without a ground. Will wonders never cease?

After some investigating, I discovered that it is the lack of a switch that allows the circuit to run without a ground. There may be other objects that when absent, may allow groundless operation.

I added a switch, and whenever it's closed, the circuit works fine...this is really interesting

Evidently some sort of handling that a switch requires while it is open.
