An OR Gate i thought worked when either input read TRUE.. why does this not work unless both inputs are active? It is working the same as an AND gate..... or is it just me? I am just learning, maybe im just wrong

the inputs are floating... you need to put a pull down resistor after each switch... 10k is enough

Heyy StaticShock, the problem is that when either of the switch is turned off, they receive no input ( note that "no input" doesn't mean it is zero). So you need to design your circuit in such a way that inputs entered are either 1 or 0 but not null.
