Solid State Relays (in simulator, shown as mechanical relay) switching an inductive load such as coils or magnets need protection such as a diode to reduce the voltage spikes when this circuit is switched off. Notice the diode that reduces the voltage spike so solid state switching is protected. Disconnect the diode and see how great the voltage spike goes when SPST opens.
