Sure seems this circuit has a problem in real life. I don't think most transistor E-B can stand the simulated voltages. Most breakdown at 10 - 15 V and these simulations show 100's of volts.

Yes most general purpose switching transistor to92s will smoke after a few seconds. Use bigger stuff pulled out of SMPS
