Two reasons, 555 is not correct implemented in EC and needs minimum around 60Ohm at output pin. Second, you are driving the NPN base collector in reverse mode which isn't a good idea. Anyway, with a current limiting resistor as mentioned both problems are gone. Hope this helps.
