The radio-signal generated by the lightning flash is picked up by the telescopic antenna with the help of a 10mH choke. The choke (10MH inductor) resonates with the antenna and allows current to flow into the receiver circuit.

if you introduce noise into the circuit by shaking your phone or click and holding on the background and shaking the mouse the LED will light up indicating a "lightning strike"/RF signal
