A "sampling and hold circuit" (S/H circuit) is an electronic circuit that captures a momentary value of an analog signal and holds it steady for a short period, essentially taking a "snapshot" of the signal, typically used in conjunction with an Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) to ensure accurate conversion by preventing voltage fluctuations during the conversion process; it primarily consists of a capacitor to store the sampled voltage and a switch (often a field-effect transistor) controlled by a control signal to connect the capacitor to the input signal during the sampling phase and then disconnect it to maintain the held voltage.
