The 3 switches in the middle are used to select the logic gate you wish to test:

AND: / / /
OR: \ / /
XOR: \ \ /
NOT: \ \ \

The top-left switches are your inputs fior the selected logic gate. The NOT gate only uses the first of two inputs.
