Just playing with the concept of current mirroring with BJTs.

Look like it would be a good idea, set up the reference with zener stabilization and it would take care of power supply variations. Bit dearer than resistors, but you don't have to be too specific about voltages.

5V as reference is good enough. No need for a zener. More interessting is, to demonstrate a variable voltage on LED side. E.g. 12V instead of 5V again. 12V does result in 200mW power dissipation on each transistor and will change Hfe. Anyway, why.complicate with an extra zener if problems are in other topics.
