Using one diode and a capacitor in a half wave rectifier: The capacitor decreases the ripple in the load voltage. Thus the DC voltage increases and the PIV (Peak Inverse Voltage) applied to the diode in the negative half of the waveform is twice the maximum voltage of the AC source which is the sum of the source voltage and the charged capacitor voltage.

Good information, the only discrepancy being is that it is not twice the maximum value of the AC source, it is almost the peak to peak value of the AC source .
