Whoa... What happens about every 20mS or so? The top end of the primary of the upper xfrmr spikes over 200 volts.

actually that spike happens every cycle. it's 250V in simulation because simulation has little or no junction capacitance or winding capacitance or resistance, in the real circuit this spike is much lower
