@BillyT normally a P channel MOSFET is the simplest option for high side switching, but when paired with n channel MOSFETs for the low side, the mismatch in on resistance can be undesirable and it's also cheaper to get a supplier to supply X number of one part than it is to supply 1/2 X number of two different parts. To control an N channel MOSFET in high side switching, a bootstrap circuit is one option which this is, the other being to use a separate floating power supply.
