Why a diode is needed with a relay

This example has shows what happens when the diode is not included in the circuit. The lamp gets blown out once the relay loses power.

That is only a 30mw globe put in a 1 watt and it's fine. If you put a diode in it still does the same try it with your circuit. Plus most relay's have diodes built in.
