This is from https://github.com/stuartpittaway/WebastoWBUSInterface I built it (in hardware) and wasn't sure if it was broken, or whether I was testing incorrectly. So I rebuilt the circuit to simulate it. The circuit works, and now I even understand why!

It's for connecting an Arduino to a car, specifically to a supplemental heating system manufactured by Webasto, which uses a single serial line for communication. It's not connected to the CAN network like other car components. This single serial line uses 12V TTL, which needs to be adapted to the 5V TTL of a 5V Arduino. The "logic source" on the left represents tx on the 5V side, and the voltmeter represents rx. On the right side, there's a switch that represents low/high on the 12V side.
