if controller with thyristor is nonsense, this is 2nd how to conotrol AC wave. DC pwm is modulate to AC wave. For asynchronic capacitorless motors (i didn't try it with capacitor ), synchronic motor and more. NOT for switched-mode power supply!!!   Potentiometer on OP-AMP make PWM 0-100%

What is the shorted out diode on the amp?

BillyT the diode before op-amp make referencial voltage from sawtooth wave for opamp to make pwm signal
