Possible audio reference issue

I have a car amp on the work bench. Im powering it from a 12 volt smps. I plug my phone's audio output into the amplifier audio input. Nothing happens. Does the phone's audio output need to be referenced to the power supply? Do I need to connect the negative signal directly to the negative power supply? I want to use my phone as a frequency generator and use the amplifier to drive various loads. ---------------------- On the flip side, I would like to use my phone as a oscilloscope. Using the Mic input and a sound recorder, I will be able to log the data and analyze it. I haven't looked to much into it. You know how those other electronic communities work, 10 different opinions and they are not allowed to call out the frauds. Meanwhile the senior troll votes up their response from a dozen different accounts.

There is a second contact you need to apply 12V. Its just a bridge with a thin wire you have to make.

The ignition/accessory trigger? Already did that and measured it. Maybe it needs a preamp. There is no specs for it, It just plugs into a factory harness, think its for a Honda van/suv. No lamp indicators. But I might be able to get my hands on another amp I know works.

Its called “relay/ignition“ or something contact. Its close to the big 12V screw but much smaller.
