When the input signal (sine wave) is fed into the anode of the diode,due to forward biasing caused by the positive half cycle of the signal and the anode,the barrier in the diode decreases,thereby allowing only the positive of the input signal to be shown at the outpu level

This is also know as a half-rectifier because it corrects the wave by 'clipping' the negative part off. A full-rectifier is one which not only stops the negative current flow, but reverses it so there are multiple positive arches instead of a wave. Both the half and full wave rectifiers are available in the examples.
