This circuit is an improved variation of the common-base amplifier, it features high gain, high input impedance, and excellent high frequency performance, the lower transistor controls the emitter current of the upper common base transistor as well as the amount of voltage gain, in this circuit around 49. There are various other biasing variations for the cascode.

These are good demonstration circuits you're posting, though I've noticed they don't get a lot of views and I think that's a shame. Don't be discouraged! EC severely needs more users publishing "real life" circuits- keep it up! =^D
