Sine shaper

The signal shaper transforms a triangle signal into a sine. The difference in our case from a real sine is given as a voltage. Voltage difference of 100mVpp is for a signal of 2.66Vpp which gives THD (total harmonic distorsion) of around 4%. Why is this important? Because is much easier to generate triangle signal of an adjustable frequency than a real sine. So the way to generate a sine is usually performed with sine shaping of a triangle signal.

There's also this approach: http://everycircuit.com/circuit/6449347288104960. I left out the low pass filter to show how the wave is being synthesized using a set of discrete value. The THD in this case would be less than starting from a triangle but not by a whole lot.

It's actually not really that hard to generate a decent sine with LC oscillators but they are only so tuneable. The key to getting a clean wave without loading the output is to take the signal directly from the tank through weak inductive coupling and a high gain amplifier.
