I'm trying to make a sensor which detects when something is placed onto my board. my first idea was to use some LED's and a LDR (the poti here) which get covered as soon as i place sth on there. Then ill be reading the voltage drop with an arduino. If somebody has a better idea feel free to let me know.

Use a photoresistor to kick a monostable multivibrator setup with a 555. No need to mess around with programming an Arduino.

Yes but the project also needs a clock to keep track of the time. I guess the arduino will be the most suitable option then when it’s connected to a LCD screen.
