In some applications you dont want to obtain power but frequency or amplitude (like a three phase generator connected to a motor, for measuring purposes). For low amplitude signals that can't activate diodes, this circuit allows to rectify positive and low amplitude signals using negative feedback to separate real diode functionality but to get his rectifying capability
