I suppose it must be a Schmitt trigger type oscillator. I was trying to make a bootstrap and before I attempted to try to control it this happened.

What's happening in the oscilloscope?

Is there no square wave oscillation? You can either inject noise (shake your device) or wait a little bit and the oscillations will start on their own.

Okay I got it to oscillate in the app but how does this even work? Is it a glitch?

It is not a glitch and nearly all if not all oscillations are not glitches because of the way EC and it’s glitches work. I believe that it is an inverting Schmitt trigger oscillator. A Schmitt trigger basically goes high when the output surpasses a certain threshold (e.g. 4V) and then only goes low when it passes a certain lower threshold (e.g. -4V) and once it’s low needs to pass the first threshold to go high again. An inverting Schmitt trigger works the same but in with the output flipped such that it outputs low when it’s input is high and it outputs high when it’s input is low. This way if it’s output is attached to it’s input the when the output is low it’s input will surpass the low threshold causing the output to go high causing the input to surpass the upper threshold causing the output to go low, etc. If a delay is added to this such as a capacitor then it will result in a controlled oscillation.
