Frequency Modulation of source signal with use of 555 Timer! Please comment your suggestions!

Its a very nice demonstration. However, practically what use does it have given that the 555 isn't capable of oscillation at Radio frequency. Perhaps there are newer faster versions of the 555 that might work at RF? Maybe it could work at say 40 kHz which might allow modulation of an infrared LED

FM modulation of an infrared LED would allow noise free transmission of Audio. Or at least significantly less noise than any amplitude modulation equivalent. Then, we'd need to implement a demodulator.

Also is this really FM? Maybe its better described as pulse width modulation?

It is both, as the frequency encrease the duty cicle decrease and the other way around. So not a pure frequency modulation and not a pure pulse width modulation
