I tear a lot of power supplies down and i keep seeing a certain type of ship with 4pins it looks like a bridge-rectifier but isn't, i tried to find a data-sheet of them but i couldn't find any. so what is that chip? Part number: || || || || ------------- | NEC | | 2561 | | DF903 | ------------- || || || ||

It's an optocoupler: http://www.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/pdf/6457/NEC/PS2561-1.html

Is the led inside visible or infrared?

To find out you have to open/destroy it.

If you already have open it, then use your mobile phone cam in viewfinder mode to check if its IR.

But i checked the data-sheet and it says its an GaAs led and thats infrared. Infrared is also the most power efficient cause it runs on 1.2V

1.2V is not power, its a voltage. I think the reason is, the receiver sillicon transistor are most sensitive at IR wavelength.

Its a optocoupler . its used to isolate hot side of the power supply to the cold side for voltage regulation.

By hot you mean primary and cold secondary?
