inrush through both coupled inductors charges the cap, sends the gate pin high and the source pin low, turning the fet on much harder.  the fet drains the cap, but the current out the source causes the coupled inductor there to drive the cap negative.

the fet switches off and the very negative cap gets charged again from the supply, turning the fet on again.
