Converts an oscillating signal into a square wave. 

When the difference between the 1kHz input and the voltage at gate of the transistor reaches saturation, the output gets shorted to the supply voltage or ground. The output is in in a cycle of getting shorted to supply voltage or ground as the input oscillates.
