Here is a double Joule Thief circuit. The advantage of this circuit is that the part of the transformer which is used to generate the frequency is also used to provide the power to drive the LED. In theory, this should have the effect of reducing energy losses. 
 
Note: The circuits do not require a dual power source and the layout of the components is simply done that way to make the theory easy to understand.
