This requires a conductor for each test point in addition to the wires to be tested. At least this shows that the idea can be made in more than one way.

The idea is to be able to build something yourself that can do more than what you can buy. Building something yourself not only makes you feel good about your efforts but gives you a true understanding of the test tool. The cost alone could be a reason for building something yourself. The average cost for a tracing tool that tests 4 conductors is $25-$300. For $25 you can easily build a tester that can test 20 conductors. I say no to anything wireless when testing conductors. Only a well built rated amp meter gets my vote for wireless testing.
