Interconnecting Two DC sources
Vary the voltage level of both sources, and then you will notice that, the source with greater voltage will supply the load

The diodes are used to prevent the sources from reverse polarity effects

Like, when Vdc1 >Vdc2, the current from Vdc1 will go to Vdc2 and Vice versa, to avoid this, the diodes are used.

This principle is commonly used for circuit that need to be power by battery when the main power supply is off. Especially when the system have volatile memories that need to be powered as long as the batteries are not removed, in which case the data is erased (confidential data as example)
