3 examples of LED arrays. 1 is series. 1 is parallel with 1 resistor. And 1 is parallel with a resistor for each LED. The reason for the different parallel circuits is because in the circuit with only 1 resistor, the resistor is going to dissipate considerably more heat (watts) than the array with a resistor per LED.
