Inside of the "OR"(RED) and "AND" Gate(blue) using DTL(Diode-Transistor Logic) The OR Gate have diodes facing "positive" direction and the AND Gate have diodes facing "negative" direction, so it needs to amplify a small amperage to make a positive output. Yeah, I think you have a typo, Voltran. The last line on the AND truth table should read (+)(+)=(+).
