Basic analog kick drum. Use example Arduino for debounced triggers if you would try this in real life.

In real life, it does ocillate at 55Hz!

@hurz, I will try this my self in real life, I have done it before, but not with the decay circuit attached, maybe that is the problem and make it oscillate. I ´ll get back when I have breadboard this circuit and hopefully get rid of the oscillation, at least not in 55Hz.

@hurtz, Yes, I see now, thanks! It is the decay that makes it oscillate. I removed it and now it works just fine. I´ll have to try working on the decay.

Do you think it will sound nice? I think it will sound to synthetic. Real drums do have even harmonics which are actually detuned from its even position. Quite complicated.

@hurz, It sounds like a very famous analog drummashine named Roland 808. Very synthy feel. Often used in modern hiphop and RnB music. But this is just the fundamental circuit, you need filters, compression, etc for the real deal.

Oh, quite often as a mixer/producer you will blend in a low end sinewave with a real acoustic kikdrum to get that fat low end. This circuit sounds like a low end sine but with a attack (transient).

@jimithiesen, I do have a roland drum machine with different pads. PD8-dual-trigger for tom-tom, I always think about making a simple drum synth with it. To many projects.... 😉

I think the Roland module, will certainly use microprocessor DSP to play and modify such retro samples. Instead as @hurz suggests, the real deal is offered using op amp based circuitry. Unfortunately, the only real way of finding out what it sounds like, is .... To... Build... It...

There are plenty of great retro electronic drum sounds that can be obtained using only discrete components.

I was and remain disinterested in retro sounds, preferring high quality samples of real sounds with many layers for intensity and other qualities.

Sure there is a controller and dsp buildin. I think about to make a minimalistic simple drum synt. Just for one tom tom. No snare (noise generator) or symbol. Only one tom tom, to figur out how the harmonics are related (actually they are not harmonic)

Drums are good. Happy Easter.
