Fishing Rod casting counter

So fishing season is almost here so I was wondering if there was a way using basic electronics (DVD player/vcr salvage) to build a wearable (wrist/Rod mount) casting counter. I think it would be fun to see the numbers at the end of the day. Of course it had to be resettable. I'm really new to electronics but old enough to take direction well. Cheers

Thanks for the info. I'll come back with a prototype. I'm glad I found this app. Cheers

I doubt that you will find very much in the way of "teachers" or "instruction" here. This is more of a proactive place for you to learn by doing. There can be any number of people that may offer assistance with your own circuitry. As far as something already built you can find any number of digital counters and other circuits which may help you get to your goal. However, a specific assembly such as you are seeking, would be very unlikely to find here.

I bought a water filter jug, and in the lid it has a plastic box with a self contained circuit and LCD display. when you open the lid to full the jug, it swipes a magnet across this small box, and the count increases by one. it's meant to count how many times the jug has been refilled to let you know when to replace the filter

also some exercise bikes have an "odometer" which works the same way

That's kind of what I'm look g for. Everyone can build something. How about everyone builds the samething. I just want to wear it for fishing season. Your brain. My data. Fair trade.
