Based on car voltage of 13.7 volts as tested on an 09 civic. This is a strip of 5 leds in series and two parallel sets with a relay on each set. When the running lights are on power goes through two resistors acting as dimmer leds. When you press the brake the relay pulls down skipping the first resistor due to lower resistance and you get a bright led when you are on the brake pedal.
