Rather high-gain FETs. I haven't thought about whether it would work in real life, with the variations in transistor gain etc. Hm... also in real life, you might want a logarithmic response, so the resistor values would follow a linear sequence, rather than the logarithmic sequence here. :)

you could use pot's to compensate the variations.
