That circuit doesn't work at real speed, which means that wouldn't work in real life. It may work because of a bug in the simulation

Actually, you are wrong @GLaDOS. At 1s/s, such high frequency circuits are undersampled, because of which the simulator is unable to simulate it. Use 1s/s only to simulate DC circuits/ very low frequency AC circuits.

There is a reason circuits are simulated at a certain timebase. It is to ensure adequate sampling. A circuit running at 1MHz switching frequency must be simulated at 1us/s or 500ns/s timebase and not anything more
