I'm curious, how would you go about building a simple version like this that'll provide me with a solid 5.1V 1A output mininum? Thinking of making something like this to run off a 12V car battery with the best power saving available:)

you would need to spend millions of hours screwing about with getting the right windings, timing, capacitors etc. or you could buy a DCDC converter already made. in a car I wouldn't even bother, just run a 2N3055 from an LM317

I have a couple of old DCDC controller chips I want to try out that might do the job
