Green-----square Red-------triangle Blue------ sine Give it a shake to get it going. It will need a few second to stabilize

No source in the ckt

It is in equilibrium until you inject noise

Very true Hamilton. I'm embarrassed to say that I sat and waited for something to happen, for 1 or 2 minutes. Then I shook my device and yelled, "GO!" and it did. ;-)

One drawback to the generator. A change in frequency will render some wave forms to become distorted or incomplete.

True, you would have to change the CR filters to tune it to the new freq. Also changing the resistance of the filter in the second element will modify the waveform. It becomes more like a sawtooth

Another drawback is the sinwave which contains a lot harmonics from principal of integrating twice is a sqr function and only close to sinus. But all in all its a usefull littel and cheap function generator for beginners its perfect. I had those long time ago.

It turns out that Forest Mimms published one a loooooong time ago. His had two amps in the sine wave portion of the circuit.

No, as far as i can see Forrests FG is equal to this

Wonderful, would be useful in an event where you need a timer

A 555 would prbly be better. Fewer parts for sure

Or xr2206 or 8038 there are some old ICs which just need a few external components and they do the rest for you. But today I would prefer e.g. a cheap Arduino Due plus some SW

Well, that would be more compact, but less fun

Hey hurz, if you read this, this has been bothering me for a bit. Is hurz your name or is it a misspelling of hertz like google is of googol

A function generator app and a Android phone with a audio amp as a buffer circuit.
